AS A FULL SERVICE TRAINING STABLE, RANCHO
ALEGRE OFFERS THE FOLLOWING:
BOARD...We provide two types of board services.
- Horses in work live in large deeply bedded box
stalls (ranging from 12'X12' to 16'X16') and benefit from ample turn-out in large irrigated or dry paddocks. Stalls are cleaned
seven days a week. Turn-Out and blanketing are included in the price of boarding. In cool months, the horses are out all day,
coming in for the afternoon feeding. In the hot summer months, the horses are outside from early evening till mid-morning
the next day, and spend the hot afternoons in their well ventilated stalls. Turn-out is provided seven days a week, except
for rainy days when they stay inside. We blanket according to the weather. The horses are fed Grass/Alfalfa hay twice a day,
and for horses in hard work, a "lunch" of pellets and/or soaked beet pulp. Grain and supplements are available for an extra
charge. Stable board is only for horses in a training or lesson program with one of the trainers, or for sale horses.
- Pasture board is available for young horses or retirees. In winter, all pasture
horses have access to loafing sheds for shelter, and in summer, the horses can escape the sun by standing either in
a shed, or under the many Oak and Cottonwood trees that shade our irrigated pastures. Any pasture horse that needs emergency
attention, is immediately brought into the regular barns and treated until they can return to their pasture buddies. There
is a slight extra charge for this service, depending on the severity of the situation. Pasture horses are fed the same hay
twice a day as the stabled horses.
- Intermediate board is for horses who are not in regular work, but who need special
attention. These horses live in bedded sheds with access to a large paddock. The sheds are cleaned 2-3 times a week, and if
needed the horses may receive "lunch" in addition to their hay. The paddocks are large enough to accomodate one or two
horses.
TRAINING...for Hunters and Jumpers with
Gay Talmey.
- For horses in preparation for careers in the jumping disciplines.
- For horses owned by Rancho Alegre clients.
- For Sales Horses.
- Rancho Alegre's Hunter/Jumper training program is structured somewhat differently
than most training barns. Rather than a fixed monthly fee for training services, Gay charges by the Training Ride and
or Lesson for the client according to a sliding scale. Horses who receive ten or more training services a month (either Rides
or Lessons) are charged slightly less per service than those who undertake less than ten services per month.
Under this system, clients are only billed for the services they actually receive. If Gay is away at a show ( either
Showing or Officiating), clients remaining at home are charged a lesser fee for exercise services such
as Longeing or Hacking by a Working Student.
LESSONS:
- In Hunter Seat Equitation, both over fences and on the flat.
- We have excellent, show quality school horses available.
- We focus on preparing riders for high level showing in Medal Classes and
for competition in the Hunter and Jumper Divisions.
- Haul-In students are welcome.
- At Rancho Alegre, we place great importance on solid basic riding skills, and
on Horsemanship , Care, Show Turn-Out and in nourishing the relationship we have with our horses.

SHOWING...At Hunter/Jumper shows with Gay Talmey.
- Gay accompanies Rancho Alegre students and horses to approximately six to ten
shows a year. Most of them are USEF "A" and "B" shows, but we also go to a few unrated shows that are sanctioned by SAHJA
(Sacramento Area Hunter Jumper Assn.) or SOHJA (Southern Oregon Hunter Jumper Assn.).
- Two shows are held at Rancho Alegre each year. Students are encouraged to participate
in these shows. The shows are two days long, and are structured exactly like a USEF rated show.
